Summary:
Used a light weight Poulon for 15+ years. I am sure glad I got this Stihl.

Strengths:
Decent power, good balance, low vibration, easy starting, tooless tensioning (available), chain heavier (.063) than competition in homeowner class. Full chisel chain available (in 2 flavors) if you are into that. Better overall quality. Stihl dealers.

Weaknesses:
Pricey but you get what you pay for. $10 air filters

Summary:
Overall better performance than my Poulan Pro PP4620 especially regarding the bar and chain oiler, but the old Poulan starts every time and it has never ever flooded.

Strengths:
Lightweight, well balanced, and cuts well once you get it started. chain oiler works well consistently.

Weaknesses:
Saw less than 1 month old: Very easy to flood. Took it back to dealer 1 hour after getting the saw and technician had to remove plug and dry it. It would not fire no matter what. When cold, if you set full choke and do not unchoke after the very first sound of firing, it will flood and no matter what you do [unless you remove and dry the spark plug or let it sit overnight], it will not start. Restarts well [1 pull] after warmed up - but don't even think about choking it unless it has sat overnight and it is completely cold. Often acts as if it is going to stall after a cut, have to gun it briefly.

Strengths:
This is a great saw for the money. Has plenty of power to cut through 24" trees and still light enough for limbing. This is my 4th saw in the last 30 years. I have had David Bradley, Mc Cullough, Craftsman and now the Sthil. This one is by far the best. I like that it has a .325 chain.

Once warmed up, runs well. If it starts.

Weaknesses:
Very unreliable. Floods incredibly easily. Not a saw I'd purchase again. Should have pull out choke like a much cheaper Craftsman. Have broken the choke mechanism several times and needed to take it in for repair. Have always owned Stihl and this is not up to their reputation. Won't start when needed in emergency situations.

Buy a Husky.

Strengths:
Quality build, long lasting chain - stays sharp and clog free

Weaknesses:
You just never know if it will start! Floods in blink of an eye. Back to Stihl dealers many times and comnplained to Stihl - brushed off everytime. Given frequency of flooding issue on here, surely Stihl aware? Premium brand - and price - but Stihl not interested. I cannot rely on it to start - therefore useless. Husky, Efco, Jonsered - I've used them all - arguably poorer build in some respects, but I can be certain they'll start. Unless you get past that, nowt else matters.

Summary:
Excellent product that actually works and is worth the money. Never again will I rip my arms off trying to start a McCullah or a Poulan.

Strengths:
Has enough power to cut a years worth of firewood in a day provided that you can keep up with it... Very dependable, it has performed consistently for years on end. Once it's been running it starts easy. Chain tension adjustment and nit noid maintenance are very easy to perform. Easy on fuel. It'd be nearly impossible to go through 2 gallons of fuel in a day regardless how hard you use it. Have yet to want to throw it off a cliff or use it as a boat anchor. Power to weight ratio seems more than satisfactory.

Weaknesses:
Pain to start if it's been sitting for any length of time. This problem seems to go away if it's used on a regular basis. It seems to enjoy abuse. The more you pound on it the better it works. I think previous posts refer to saws that have sat for months on end.

Summary:
I would reccomend this saw for any home or general user. Light weight and lots of power. Also working for a rental company, these saws are very reliable. Stihl is No.1

Strengths:
Great saw for general use. Nice and light, lots of power. Used at the cottage takes care of all necessary wood to be cut, dead fall, dropping trees, firewood. awesome saw! High quality. No problems with starting. Idles like a champ. Easy to start.

Weaknesses:
This is one saw you cannot flood. You have to read the starting manuel, or watch the video. The newer stihl's start different from older ones. Full choke 1 or to pulls, then back 1 notch on the choke and 1 or 2 more pulls it will fire up. Then turn choke off onced warm. Other then that this saw is great.

Summary:
My MS230 started life as an MS210. Although it's rare to happen, I somehow caused the connecting rod to bend, requiring a full rebuild. The dealer had a MS230 power plant handy, though and gave me a deal on rebuilding (< $200) so I went for it. Most of my experience with the saw is based on the lower-powered unit but the it's still applicable.

Strengths:
A lot of power for a small saw. The majority of the wood in my lot is black locust, which is tough as hell. Oak cuts like butter by comparison. This saw will buzz through locust all day without a hiccup.

Weaknesses:
Same as other have reported: flooding. I realize now that the method that's worked best for me is valid. Pull it a couple of times with full choke until you hear it catch, then IMMEDIATELY cut it to half choke. It'll start in one or two pulls. Otherwise, figure on pulling the plug and drying it out before trying again. Lost a lot of time on the rare days I can get out to cut wood because of this.

Excellent saw for the money. Good warranty and accessory products....and have received great after sale service from my Stihl dealer

Strengths:
compact, solid construction, balanced, light, economical and fairly zippy ( keep chain sharp -( swallow your pride and have it prof. sharpened every 3 sharpenings and just touch up your self between fuel fills)Starts easy if you follow the instructions.....NEVER choke after second cold pull. The saw will usually " cough" on the 2nd choked pull. Then move to run position and start and you will never have a problem starting. Never use choke when warm start of course.

Weaknesses:
Oiler channels can clog. Only use Stihl chain oil, and make certain to clean the bar grove and oil outlet after use as part of post use routine service
